2005 Freestone Pinot Noir
Varietal 100% Pinot Noir
Winemaker's Tasting Notes We are proud to present our inaugural release of Freestone Vineyards Pinot Noir, a wine which is unfined, unfiltered, and truly representative of the rugged coastal region where Freestone is located.

The 2005 vintage was a challenge along the western Sonoma Coast and yields were extremely low in some of the Freestone vineyard blocks. Despite the difficulties, we managed to cherry pick our barrels and produce a wine that is rich in both color and supple tannin, while also offering an elegant, aromatic bouquet of black cherries, allspice, forest floor and creamy oak.

We suggest decanting the wine prior to serving.
Harvest Date Septembr 25 - October 5, 2005
Blend & Grape Sources 100% estate-grown Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir from Freestone Vineyard (55%) and Quarter Moon Vineyard (45%).
Aging Regime Twelve months in French oak barrels (50% new, 50% one- to two-years-old).
Coopers Francois Frères, Remond, Chassin and Rousseau.
Growing Season The 2005 vintage in Sonoma County can be characterized generally as high yield and late ripening with good sugar and acid balance. The rugged coastal climate in Freestone, however, provided some challenges such as poor berry set in some blocks, spring frost damage and botrytis, all of which yielded a smaller than expcted crop in some blocks.

With a lot of attention and application of our biodynamic sprays and teas, the vines focused all of their energies on the smaller crop and provided grapes with concentrated and expressive regional flavors.
